Divine Thread consists of watercolors, paintings, drawings, and sculptures that juxtapose a grotesque, photorealistic organicism with an abstract representation of the artist’s spiritual belief in reincarnation. Kim’s work employs repetitions of small, cell-like shapes that combine to form structures reminiscent of moving, breathing organisms. The resulting images, almost as though they were fractals, inspire questions of our own existence as amalgamations of infinitesimal, atomic structures and their dynamic, vibrant energies. Lacking a sense of beginning and end, each piece provides an object of meditation beyond its purely aesthetic value.
